THE METHOD (2007)

These people are applying for a job. Men and women, opponents even enemies, fighting without mercy, even more, using the lowest weapons, including physical aggression,  so as to win, to become THE chosen.

Why? Why such perversity? Because, what is “pervert” is The System, correction: What is pervert is the system chosen to make the selection. This takes us to one of the most important characteristics of “perversion”: “Although the pervert recognizes there is a Law, he manipulates it at his own convenience, generating extremely anxiety in those who are below him: citizens, employees, students, children, etc. And it is anxiety of the other with which he enjoys most.

Another characteristic is the question: “And why not?”. Let s say this is not the neurotic “Why not?”, the difference stands in that  the pervert is only trying to provoke anxiety in the other.

We ve seen this Imaginary web in which they are entangled, and whose principle is “Either him or me!”, situation that can only be overcome by a Symbolic instance where each of us is respected in every singularity, as subjects. We are not “manipulatable, discardable, replaceable” objects.

As a background, in the street, a demonstration by the World Social Forum. They are claiming against the perversity of The System in which the citizens are simply objects that consume “consuming objects” in a worldwide market economy that aniquilates subjectivity

Podriamos ver un tipico film violento, en este caso personificado por Kitano que tiene una hermana especial, ya que vive en su mundo de fantasia y que de tanto en tanto se desestructura, es llevada al neuropsiquiatrico y gracias a los cuidados de su hermano es traida para "aca" y no queda flotando en el limbo. Tambien podriamos ver la corrupcion en la policia y una comunidad violenta desde sus raices ya que hasta los niños son violentos. Podriamos ver todo esto, pero... queremos ver "mas alla".

Entonces, cambia radicalmente el panorama y nos encontramos con un hombre idealista, que sufre la anomia de las instituciones, es decir que no se encuentra representado y oido y que generalmente tiene que hacer justicia por mano propia. Veremos su agobio y desesperacion por la patologia psiquica de su hermana, que lo lleva a generar en el tanta agresividad que solo puede descargarla contra el otro, el congenere y por ultimo en cierta forma descargarla contra si mismo, pues en la escena final busca ser matado. Tanta fue su desesperacion por lo insoluble de la situacion con su hermana que ante la vision de esta joven tan denigrada, devastada por la droga, solo pudo en un pasaje al acto, matarla para luego buscar la muerte.

Ahora ya estamos en condiciones de pensar que abstrayendo estos personajes del contexto mafioso en el que se desenvuelven, bien podemos pensar que puede aplicarse a cualquier ciudadano, de aqui y ahora, que es llevado hasta el borde de lo resistible, quien se encuentra solo absolutamente solo para afrontar sus responsabilidades y no tiene a quien recurrir, ya que nadie lo escucha, fundamentalmente el estado. Acaso no es esa la preocupacion que traen a nuestros consultorios, por ej, los padres de hijos discapacitados,con preguntas tales como: ¿Qué será de él/ella cuando yo ya no esté? ¿Quién se ocupará de él/ella?

This film could be seen as a typical "action"movie, starring by Kitano, in which he has custody of a very special sister who, from time to time, has a nervous breakdown, is taken into hospital and thanks to her brother s attention, she doesn t fall into madness. We could also see the corruption at the Police Force and a violent society, where violence es deeply rooted, even children are violent. However, we want to see further ...
This new point of view changes completely the panorama. Then, we have now an idealistic man who doesn t feel represented by citizen s institutions; that is to say, a typical case of anomia. Yet, sometimes, has to take law in his hands. We ll see how desperate he is, not only for this social situation but also, and fundamentally, by his sister s mental illness. This generates in him such agresivity that he turns into an agresive man against all people around him, and eventually against himself, since at the final scene he looks for being killed, after having killed his own sister. But why? Because, that was the only way out at seeing his sister devastated and denigrated by drugs.
Now, we are ready to considerate the fact that taken these characters out from this maffia context, they could possibly be any of the human beings around us, who is taken to the frontier of the unbearable, who is alone, absolutely alone to face his life and has nobody to count with. Isn t this the complaint that, day in day out, our patients bring to us, the psychoanalists, as the case with handicapped children s parents? "What will (s)he do if I die?", "Who will take care of her/him?
